Healthy Fruit Smoothies and Vegetable Juices


Try these easy and delicious Healthy Fruit Smoothies and Homemade Vegetable Juices for great nutrition and natural energy boosters.

I find Healthy Fruit Smoothies and freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices to be the most refreshing and tasty way to get a great energy lift and a whole bunch of nutrients to boot. A couple years ago I bought a vegetable juicer and it sits proudly on my counter top and I use it to make Vegetable Juices and Fruit concoctions almost everyday. I contend that by starting everyday with one of my juice combinations, especially during the winter months, I have avoided colds and flu for the past few years. Try it and see if it works for you too!

You will find that I use Echinacea* drops in some of my Fruit Smoothie Recipes and Homemade Vegetable Juices – I believe that it works to ward off colds and flu but if you do not want to use it, try the juices anyway – they not only taste good, but they are really good for you.

beet and carrot juice
Winter Elixir
1 cm. (1/2 inch) piece of fresh ginger
1 small beet, scrubbed clean – don't peel
2 apples
2 carrots
20 drops of Echinacea*

Peel the ginger root but don't peel the other veggies and fruit. Process each fruit/vegetable (including ginger) in the juicer. Drop in the Echinacea drops and mix. Drink this while it is still fresh. I find it gives me a real morning boost – almost like a good cup of coffee but the "feel good" feeling lasts right through the morning – no caffeine crash after drinking this Elixir.

*Echinacea can be bought at health food stores and vitamin shops. Per Wikipedia, Echinacea is popularly believed to be an immunostimulator, stimulating the body's non-specific immune system and warding off infections.


Winter Warmer
1 cm. (1/2 inch) piece of fresh ginger
1/2 lemon
2 apples
2 pears
1 tsp. cinnamon
Peel the ginger root but don't peel the apples and pears. Process the ginger, apples and pears in the juicer. Squeeze the lemon juice. Mix in the cinnamon. Heat the juice gently on a low heat. Do not boil. Sip the hot juice – it tastes great and the ginger and cinnamon warm you up from the inside – it's a great winter drink!



Summer Energy Juice
1 cm. (1/2 inch) piece of fresh ginger
1 cucumber
2 apples
1c carrot
Peel the ginger root but don't peel the other veggies and fruit. Process each fruit/vegetable in the juicer. This is a light, refreshing drink – great for the summer months.



These drinks taste great and are really good for you. You get a good dose of vitamins and nutrients from the fresh veggies and fruit without expensive synthetic vitamin tablets – save money and feel good – sounds like a good idea to me!

Of course you can have fun playing around with different flavour options – beets are really good for you but don't taste so great so adding a sweet fruit makes it easier to drink. I tried to use sweet potato once and that was just horrendous so I wouldn't recommend it! Don't try kohlrabi either – it was not good at all! But melon can be good and grapefruit, orange, ginger and apple are great together – see what works for you.





Healthy Fruit Smoothies
Fruit Juice Shakes and Fruit Smoothies are great, especially in the summer. A shake can be a light meal or snack or a morning pick-me-up. There are more calories in these shakes than in the fruit and vegetable juices, above (if you're counting calories).

Banana Pomegranate Shake
1 banana
3/4 cup soy or rice milk (or regular, if you prefer)
3 tbsp. (eyeball it) pomegranate syrup**
3 tbsp. silan date honey OR honey
5 ice cubes

Blend all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth and frothy.

**Pomegranate Syrup or Molasses is a thick, sweet-tangy reduction of pomegranate juice and can be found is specialty shops. If you can't find it, try using a little orange juice to add tang to the shake.



Strawberry Banana Smoothie
5 large strawberries
1 banana
1 cup orange juice
1/2 tsp. vanilla extract
5 ice cubes
Blend all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth and frothy.



Coffee Banana Shake
This shake is a deliciously great way to perk up your day!
1 banana
1 tbsp. instant coffee
3/4 cup soy or rice milk (or regular, if you prefer)
1 tbsp. ground flaxseed
1 tsp. cinnamon
5 ice cubes
Blend all the ingredients together in a blender until smooth and frothy.



These are all great homemade vegetable juice and fruit smoothies options - but of course, there are tons of other combinations. Try my Fennel and Apple smoothie to jump-start your day! Fresh pineapple, papaya melon, watermelon make great shakes too – try them all out in different combinations. Coconut milk, although packed with calories, tastes great in smoothies. You can't go wrong with any of these ideas!
