Baked Camembert Cheese – there is nothing simpler!


Baked Camembert Cheese is such a simple way to WOW your dinner guests!


Like I've said before, and I will surely say again and again – I am all about easy!

This wonderful Baked Camembert Cheese is so ridiculously simple and so absolutely elegant, you will love serving this to company or even just for a family holiday meal.

And you know what? You can make the exact same recipe with Brie, as well – actually, any soft, runny cheese like Camembert or Brie can be used with impressive results every time!

INGREDIENTS
1 package Camembert or Brie Cheese
1 cup flour
3/4 cup butter OR margarine
1/4 water
Pinch of salt
2 tbsp. olive oil

PREPARATION
First we are going to make the dough for the crust which is going to cover the cheese. This a simple pie crust dough – really – there is nothing simpler than this! The crust can be easily prepared in a food processor or by hand. In either case, do not overwork the dough or the crust will be tough. Simplest way by far – use your food processor.

Place the flour and butter in the food processor. Pulse the butter and flour for a couple seconds – you should have a crumbly mixture. Slowly add the water and salt and process just until mixed. If you are doing this by hand, put the flour in a mixing bowl, cut in the butter (using two knives) until you get to the crumbly stage then add the salt and water and form a dough.

Remove the dough from the machine (or bowl) and form a ball. Wrap in cling film and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.

Remove the dough from the fridge and divide into 2. Sprinkle some flour over your work surface. Roll out the dough into a round roughly twice the size of your cheese. Place the cheese in the middle of the dough and fold the crust around it ensuring it is sealed from all sides. Pat it and smooth it so that it looks pretty.

At this point, if you really want to impress your guests and go the extra mile, you can cut out shapes from the remaining dough such as leaves, or simple flower shapes. Dampen the top of your cheese package and "glue" the shapes on.

Now brush the top with the olive oil and set your cheese package on a greased baking dish or oven proof casserole (you can use cooking spray – it's always easier!). Bake in a preheated oven at (180C/350F) for 15-20 minutes. Serve immediately by slicing the Baked Camembert Cheese into wedges – the cheese will be soft and runny and the crust will be flaky and yummy. Serve on crackers or sliced baguette or any really good, fresh bread.

Oh yah! What about the second half of the dough? You can freeze it for later use, or make a second Baked Camembert Cheese or an altogether new one using a different kind of cheese.
